Privacy Policy

Overview

NestMate ("we," "us," or "NestMate") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use the NestMate website, applications, and related services (collectively, the "Service")—including when you browse as a visitor or create an account.

This Policy does not apply to websites or services we do not operate or control. If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the Service.

Terms of Use

This Policy is part of our Terms of Use. Your use of the Service is also governed by those Terms.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and adjust the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Policy.

Information we collect

Account and profile. To use certain features, you may register and provide information such as your name, email address, school affiliation, academic details (for example major or year), profile or avatar image, and other details you choose to add to your profile or roommate quiz. If you sign in through a third-party provider (such as OAuth or email authentication), we receive information that provider shares with us according to your settings and their policies.

Content you provide. We collect content you submit through the Service—such as quiz responses, messages, group interactions, housing preferences, calendar or schedule information you upload, and similar inputs needed to operate matching and housing features.

Communications. If you contact us (for example by email), we may keep your contact details and a record of the conversation.

Technical and usage data. Like most sites, our servers and partners may log data such as IP address, device type, browser type and language, referring URLs, pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP, timestamps, and similar diagnostics. We may use cookies, pixels, or similar technologies as described below.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar tools to keep you signed in, remember preferences, understand how the Service is used, and improve performance and security. Some cookies are session-based; others may persist. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may limit certain features. Third parties that integrate with the Service may set their own cookies—we do not control their practices; see their privacy policies.

How we use information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Service;
  • Create and manage accounts and authenticate users;
  • Perform roommate matching, housing recommendations, maps, and related features;
  • Communicate with you about the Service, security, or policy updates;
  • Monitor usage, troubleshoot issues, and protect against fraud or abuse;
  • Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Use; and
  • Aggregate or de-identify data for analytics and product development.

"Processing" includes collecting, storing, analyzing, combining, disclosing, or deleting information, including alongside other data we may hold.

Visibility. Parts of your profile or contributions may be visible to other users as needed for the Service to function (for example, showing matches or group members). Do not post information you consider highly sensitive unless you accept that risk.

Sharing of information

Service providers. We share information with vendors who help us host the Service, store data, authenticate users, send email, analyze usage, or perform similar functions. They may access information only as needed to provide services to us and are expected to protect it appropriately.

Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, legal process, or government request; to enforce our Terms or investigate misuse; to protect the rights, safety, or property of NestMate, users, or the public; or to detect or prevent fraud or security issues.

Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will take reasonable steps to require the successor to honor this Policy.

No sale of personal information. We do not sell your personal information for money as that term is commonly understood. We do not share your contact information with unrelated third parties for their independent marketing without your consent, except as described in this Policy.

Analytics and advertising. We or our partners may use cookies, pixels, or similar technologies to measure traffic and campaign effectiveness. Industry opt-out tools (for example, the Digital Advertising Alliance at aboutads.info) may offer additional choices for interest-based ads where applicable.

Your choices

You may update certain profile information in the Service where editing is available. To request access, correction, export, or deletion of personal information, or to object to certain processing where applicable, contact us at support@nestmateai.com. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling requests. We may retain information where required by law or legitimate business needs.

Data retention

We retain information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Retention periods may vary by data type.

Google User Data

If you choose to sign in using Google OAuth or connect a Google account, NestMate may access certain information from your Google account, depending on the permissions you grant.

Data we collect from Google may include: your name, email address, profile picture, and basic account identifiers. We do not access sensitive Google user data (such as Gmail content, Google Drive files, calendar data, or contacts) unless explicitly stated and required for a specific feature you choose to use.

How we use Google user data: We use this data solely to:

  • Authenticate your identity and create or manage your account;
  • Provide and maintain core application functionality;
  • Improve user experience within the Service.

We do not use Google user data for:

  • Advertising or marketing purposes;
  • Selling data to third parties;
  • Building user profiles for advertising;
  • Training machine learning or AI models;
  • Any purpose unrelated to providing or improving user-facing features.

Data sharing: We do not sell, rent, or transfer Google user data to third parties. We may share limited data only with service providers who help us operate the Service (such as hosting or authentication), and only as necessary under strict confidentiality obligations.

Data retention and deletion: Google user data is retained only as long as necessary to provide the Service. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at support@nestmateai.com. Upon verified request, we will delete your data unless retention is required by law.

Security: We use industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit and access controls, to protect Google user data from unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; you provide information at your own risk.

Links to other sites

The Service may link to third-party websites or services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We encourage you to read them.

Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

International users

If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where we or our providers operate. Those locations may have different data protection rules. By using the Service, you acknowledge such transfer and processing where permitted by law.

California residents

If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), such as requesting access to or deletion of certain personal information and opting out of certain sharing. Submit requests through the contact email above; we will respond as required by law.

Changes to the Service

If we materially change how we use personal information, we will provide notice as appropriate (for example, by posting on this page or notifying you by email).
